Daily life is relaxed and convenient with three supermarkets within 5 minutes walk. The Saturday market, the largest on the lake is not to be missed. It specialises in local meat, fish, fruit, veg etc. as well as wonderful leatherwear. Wine can be tasted and bought straight from the vat at the local "Bottiglieria" (take your own litre bottles). There are fruiterers and delicatessens near the apartment as well as a handmade pasta shop. There is a choice of patisseries to provide fresh croissants and bread for breakfast.
A lot of local information is found at the Tourist Office. The main office is in Pallanza with a branch in Intra at piazza Matteotti. Information includes ferry and bus timetables, local events, trips to the three Borremeo Islands, a scenic rail trip and maps of the area. Bottled water may be purchased, although mains water is safe to drink.
Intra has swimming baths "piscina" and local bathing beaches.
For those without transport there is an excellent bus service to outling villages from where marked mountain walks commence and along the lake to other towns.

One steamer stop or a walk to the colourful Villa Taranto combining both English and Italian garden styles. If time allows walk on to Pallanza and then return by steamer.
Relish the challenge of discovering Pogallo a previously deserted village high in the Val Grande mountains above Cicogna in the San Bernadino Valley. (car or taxi necessary).
Steamer trip to Locarno, Switzerland combining a few hours at a lakeside market at Cannobio or Luino.
Take the car ferry across the lake to Laveno; experience a ride in the bucket cable lift to the top of the local mountain and walk down to Cittiglio, returning to Laveno one stop away by local train.
